چکیده

‘Evolving assemblages’ explores the transformation of images or three-dimensional (3D) models in order to create large-scale assemblages of 3D objects. The proposed approach allows the evolution of the type, size, rotation and position of each object, constructing a non-photorealistic transformation of a source image or 3D model. The creator evaluates each individual of the population accordingly to his/hers aesthetics preferences, influencing the final outcome of the process. The evolution of assemblages which are mapped to a 3D model is described. The experimental results presented highlight the generalisation abilities of the evolved individuals and the expressiveness of the evolutionary tool.

Evolving Assemblages of 3D Objects

A novel approach to the creation of assemblages of three-dimensional digital objects is presented and explored. The proposed evolutionary art approach allows the evolution of the distribution of 3D objects, which are placed on a virtual canvas, constructing a non-photorealistic transformation of a source image. The approach is thoroughly described, giving particular emphasis to the interaction ...

How does the taxonomic status of allopatric populations influence species richness within African cichlid fish assemblages?

Aim Current estimates of species richness within rapidly evolving species flocks are often highly dependent on the species status of allopatric populations that differ in phenotypic traits. These traits may be unreliable indicators of biological species status and systematists may have inconsistently assigned species among lineages or locations on the basis of these traits, thus hampering compa...

The Evolving Role of Physicians - Don’t Forget the Generalist Primary Care Providers; Comment on “Non-physician Clinicians in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Evolving Role of Physicians”

The editorial “Non-physician Clinicians in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Evolving Role of Physicians” by Eyal et al describes non-physician clinicians’ (NPC) need for mentorship and support from physicians. We emphasise the same need of support for front line generalist primary healthcare providers who carry out complex tasks yet may have an inadequate skill mix.

Field Margins as Rapidly Evolving Local Diversity Hotspots for Ground Beetles (coleoptera: Carabidae) in Northern China

The diversity of carabid assemblages at newly established field margins was compared to the diversity in surrounding fields and woodland habitats at Dongbeiwang village, Beijing. Carabids were sampled using 6 pitfalls per plot at a total of 12 plots in the year 2000. Although sampled only a year after their establishment, field margins harbored the most abundant and diverse carabids assemblages...

Counter-Mapping as Assemblage

This paper explores the utility of assemblage theory for intergenerational counter-mapping and, through this, for reconfigurations of indigeneity. Counter-mapping is theorised as a kind of assemblage that, through intergenerational learning, is fundamentally memetic (composed of evolving units of information) in nature. Assemblage is theorised as having three aspects (relations of exteriority, ...
